Process
You may work on this project with ONE other person. First, choose your players. You will need two pitchers, two catchers, two infielders, two outfielders, and, if you choose, one other player. It can be the coach if you choose, or another player from the active roster. Click on the logos above to open up that team's active roster page. You will get $80 for each player to spend on food each day from your team.
FIRST SPREADSHEET
You need to create a spreadsheet that lists the players and add up each player's share to get the total amount your team will need to give you before you leave for New York. On that same spreadsheet, 1/3 of each player's share will go for lunch, and 2/3 will go for dinner.
Put your name in Cell A1 (use Cell B1 for your partner, if you have one), start your spreadsheet in A4.
A3 should have the label "Players." List the players down the column.
Cell C1 should be the label "Destination", and Cell D1 should have the destination of your group, whether it be Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens.
Cell C3 should be the label "Total Budget," and Cell D3 should multiply the number of players you chose by the amount you will be given for them by the number of days.
Cell C5 is "Lunch Budget," and Cell D5 should be the individual's amount, divided by 1/3, multiplied by the number of players in your group. This is the maximum amount that you can spend each day on lunch.
Cell C7 is "Dinner Budget," and Cell D7 should be the individual's amount, divided by 2/3, multiplied by the number of players in your group. This is the maximum amount you can spend on dinner for the group each day.
You have three days to complete this spreadsheet. E-mail it to your teacher when you are finished.
Use the references page to look up information on how to create a spreadsheet and use formulas in it.
After this is finished, start on the main, second and final spreadsheet.
MAIN, SECOND and FINAL SPREADSHEET
Using what you know, and reviewing the references page, create a spreadsheet.
Cell A1 will have your name again (use Cell B1 for your partner, if you have one).
List the place you are going for lunch each day in Column A, starting with Cell A3.
Cell A2 should have the label, "Place."
Cell B3 next to the name of the place, you need to pick a drink.
Cell B2 should have the label, "Food Items."
Cell C3 should be how much the drink costs, in dollars, multiplied by the number of players in your group.
Cell C2 should have the label, "Cost."
In Cell D1, you will have to type in just the amount of your total budget for all three days.
Cell D3 should subtract the total you came up with in Cell C3 from the total amount of your budget (Cell D1).
Cell D2 should have the label "Budget used."
You will have to repeat the name of the restaurant in Column A in the next row down, so in Column B you can pick an entree (salad, sandwich, soup, combo, whatever - type in the name of the item or dish).
Column C again will be the price, multiplied by the number of players.
Column D should now subtract from the amount in the cell above. (So if you are on row 4, Cell C4 should have the price multiplied by the number of players, and D4 should subtract that amount from the number in Cell D3, to keep subtracting from the budget.)
Keep going down the spreadsheet, this time with the place for dinner the first night. Dinner needs to consist of a drink, soup/salad/individual appetizer, and entree.
Dessert is optional, and only if you have enough money in your budget.
Keep going down the page, doing lunch and dinner for each of the next two days (you need three days total).
Click on the picture of the dinner below to go to the main website of New York restaurants. By the way, they are rated according to how expensive they are. You may choose single dollar sign restaurants for lunch only. Two of your dinners should be eaten at two dollar sign restaurants, and one three dollar restaurant. Remember, too, to only look at the restaurants in the part of New York you picked in the first spreadsheet!
E-mail the spreadsheet to your teacher when you are finished. You have one week from the due date of the first spreadsheet.
Don't forget, after you email the spreadsheet, you have three days to e-mail the answers to the "Reflection" questions!
